L’abbaye aux Dames est un monastère de moniales bénédictines fondé au XIe siècle à Caen, en Normandie (France). C’est l’une des deux grandes abbayes, avec l’abbaye aux Hommes, de la ville de Caen. Son église abbatiale de la Trinité abrite depuis 1083 le tombeau de Mathilde de Flandre, épouse de Guillaume le Conquérant.
L’abbaye est le siège du Conseil régional de Normandie.
L’ancienne église abbatiale fait l’objet d’un classement au titre des monuments historiques par la liste de 1840. L’ensemble des bâtiments conventuels fait l’objet d’un classement au titre des monuments historiques depuis le 24 juin 1976.
The Abbey of the Ladies is a monastery of Benedictine nuns founded in the 11th century in Caen, Normandy (France). It is one of the two great abbeys, along with the Abbey of Men, in the city of Caen. Its abbey church of the Trinity has been home to the tomb of Mathilde of Flanders, wife of William the Conqueror, since 1083. The abbey is the seat of the Normandy Regional Council. The former abbey church is the subject of a list of historical monuments by the list of 1840. All convent buildings have been classified as historical monuments since 24 June 1976.
